It’s about as good as late August gets with a sunny 87 degrees this afternoon. Watch for a stray shower around 7 or 8 tonight, but tomorrow brings an exact replay, more sun and 87°F.
Tomorrow is first day of school, and the Nashua Soup Kitchen sent close to 2,000 kids back with a full backpack. Firefighters spent early Saturday morning on Lynde Street. And Charlie St. Clair, who ran Laconia Bike Week for 35 years, died over the weekend.
Saturday is stacked downtown. Murals go up on the rail trail and the Greeley Park art show runs both weekend days.

Early morning fire tears through a Lynde Street home Nashua firefighters were called to 5 Lynde St. just before 4 AM Saturday for a garage fire that had already climbed the front of the house. Everyone got out and nobody was hurt. The fire marshal is still working on a cause. Nashua Telegraph
Manchester man arrested after a Hollis crash Police say Wayne O’Brien, 32, left the scene of an August 20 crash at Proctor Hill Road and Austin Lane in Hollis. He is now in custody and facing charges. Nashua Telegraph
Soup kitchen hands out nearly 2,000 backpacks The Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter packed and gave away close to 2,000 backpacks this month, about $50 of supplies in each one, in the 31st year of the drive. That covers roughly one in five kids in Nashua’s public schools, and the first day of class is Tuesday. Nashua Independent

Laconia Bike Week’s longtime leader has died Charlie St. Clair, who ran Laconia Motorcycle Week for 35 years and served in the New Hampshire House from 2017 to 2020, died Saturday of injuries from an August 4 motorcycle crash in Ohio. He was on his way to the Sturgis rally, a ride he had made every year for five decades. NHPR
State puts out new photos in a 1977 killing The Cold Case Unit released never-before-seen pictures of Shari Roth, a 22-year-old North Conway social worker who was strangled after setting out on the Sawyer Brook Trail in Livermore in August 1977. Ayotte stays quiet on a big utility merger Five New England governors signed a letter last week opposing NextEra’s plan to buy Dominion Energy, which would put both of the region’s nuclear plants, Seabrook included, under one owner.
